Worcester City Pride Event in The Arches

The event offered a wide range of activities designed to engage and entertain attendees of all ages. From live performances by local musicians and drag artists, poetry and even a dog show, there was something for everyone. Families and friends mingled, creating a welcoming space where everyone felt free to express themselves.

One of the highlights of the day was the series of speeches from community leaders and activists who emphasised the importance of love, acceptance, and resilience. Their powerful words resonated deeply, reminding everyone of the ongoing struggles for equality and the importance of standing together as a community. Personal stories shared by local residents highlighted the transformative power of pride events in fostering acceptance and understanding.

One of the organisers and headline acts of the day, Yasmin Agilah said of the day,

“Worcester City Pride was THE most diverse event I have ever seen in Worcester. This is because the organisers come from a multitude of diverse backgrounds so it was intersectional by default. Sugardaddy’s, Saucy, Meet me at the back door provided incredible entertainment and a Pride that didn’t rely on corporate sponsorship but grit and heart.”

The Arches were not just a backdrop for the festivities; local businesses played an integral role in the event’s success. Local shops and artisans showcased their talents in The Artery Studios and local tattoo shop Circle of Swords hosted a Tattoo Pop-up throughout the day.

The great news is, it sounds that this fantastic event will be returning next year as Yasmin commented,

“I was so proud to be a part of it. We can’t wait to do it all again next year, with more than 6 weeks to do it! Queers are magic. When we want to celebrate and be seen, we slay!”
