An introduction into Sign-Paintin’ with Joshua Rouse

An introduction into Sign-Paintin’ with Joshua Rouse

Join Sign-painter and Artist Joshua Rouse on Sunday 22nd of September 2024 9am – 4pm for a day of learning all about what Sign-painting is, the tools, terms and methods used. By the end of the day, you will have had some hands-on practice and take home your very own piece of work to keep!

What to expect!

We start the day sketching letters and taking a closer look at the structures of them including how to scale up your sketches to a larger scale!

We will then practice brush strokes and techniques with the chiselled sable brushes provided whilst getting a hang of how to use our Mahl sticks effectively!

Once we’ve had our 30 minute lunch break, we will get started on painting out a letter or word onto some pre painted wood! You’ll get to keep these pieces along with any practice sheets and grids that are provided!

This course is perfect for beginners or if you’re interested in Sign-painting but don’t know where to start! No prior experience is necessary!

I have been making and painting signs for nearly 10 years and there’s always plenty to learn so let’s have some fun whilst I share my knowledge and passion with you!

What should I bring?

This is a one day course 9am-4pm that takes place at the stunning Artery Gallery workshop! All brushes, pencils, paint and paper are provided, if you would like to bring your own sketchbook then please do!

Snacks and refreshments will be available through the day but please bring some lunch as we will break for lunch at 12:30!

How to get there

The artery gallery is a short walk from Foregate street station and is located opposite the hive! The closest nearby parking is the cattle market car park which is a minute walk from the gallery or Croft Road car park. Please be sure to pay for parking as these areas are patrolled and they do not accept cash.
